Description:
SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Carpenter at SMG - Reliant Park. Carpenter’s job entails working under general supervision, performs work as needed to maintain and repair facility operating systems and prepare for and support conduct of events at the facility. Duties include skilled and semi-skilled tasks, which often require heavy lifting and a high degree of physical exertion.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Perform repairs and maintenance to existing structures including but not limited to parking signs, podiums, crates and storage containers.
2) Build objects as required, cut wood as required.
3) Ability to follow and draw plans for items. CAD ability and advantage.
4) Manage and maintain carpentry shop adhering to all safety regulations.
5) Manage carpentry inventory of tools and material.
6) Follow the preventive maintenance program, energy management program and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment.
7) Record and log all work performed, complete work order slips and compile all required reports in a timely and complete manner.
8) Promote a safe working environment for all employees by following the life safety and emergency program as needed.
9) Operate power tools and other equipment, such as, light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, access lifts, or other light power driven equipment.
10) May occasionally have to enter areas where fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals are present.
11) Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
12) Respond to carpentry needs from other departments at short notice.
13) Develop and submit lists of necessary repairs and improvements.
Required Experience:
High School diploma or GED and one to three months related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Be familiar with operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.
Know advanced techniques in carpentry.
Follow and adhere to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management and emergency procedures.
Work effectively under pressure and / or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
Meet the physical demands of the job. Must perform strenuous physical duties at times, including lifting, carrying, moving and climbing.
Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons and other encountered in the course of employment. Adhere to SMG Code of Conduct policy.
Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
Welding and metalwork experience not required.
